CareerView Program
The Program
Converse CareerView began as an initiative of the Converse College Office of Career Services and the Rotary Club of Spartanburg. It is a job shadowing program designed to help students make those tough decisions about which major to pursue, what field of work they are interested in, and the specific job they want to hold after graduation. All Converse students and alumnae are eligible to participate in shadowing.
Dates and Places
Converse CareerView is offered locally (in Spartanburg) and occurs throughout the year, peaking during the college breaks. Students may shadow anytime as long as it does not interfere with academics. The sponsor determines how often to host students, the length of each shadowing experience, and the activities in which students participate.
What exactly is Converse CareerView?
During Converse CareerView, students “shadow” or follow an employer for a day or more at the employer’s place of business to gather information about the employer’s job, career field, and the kind of preparation necessary to enter the employer’s occupation. Students are matched with a sponsor whose occupation closely matches the students’ career interests. Employer participants are called “sponsors”. Sponsors are usually Converse Alumnae or friends of Converse College who are willing to donate their time to help Converse students.
What is the purpose of Converse CareerView?
Students who shadow gain valuable insight into career options of interest, assisting them to make more knowledgeable choices about careers/occupations. Converse CareerView is not an avenue for seeking employment. Students who shadow are not paid, and do not receive academic credit.
What is my responsibility as a sponsor?
  • Individuals interested in being a sponsor for the Converse CareerView Program submit  a completed online Sponsor Information Form to Career Services.
  • Be available for phone call/email from potential shadowing student to discuss and make arrangements for shadowing.
  • Inform shadowing student of any changes in schedule once dates have been confirmed.
  • Send evaluation of job shadowing to Career Services.
  • Concerning safety and liability, all student participants in job shadowing are required to sign a “Waiver of Liability”. This informs the students that they assume full responsibility for participation in the program. While this waiver discharges both Converse College and you as a sponsor from liability, a release such as this cannot prevent the student from taking action for negligent acts resulting in personal harm. Please evaluate to ensure safety.
