Instructions for Phoning Your Sponsor
|
Be patient and persistent when calling your sponsor. Your sponsor may be difficult to reach. If your sponsor is not available:
- Inquire when would be a good time to call back. Is there a time when the sponsor is more apt to answer the phone?
- Tell the person who answers the phone that you will call back and provide a time for the call.
- Leave your name and reason for calling.
- After several unsuccessful attempts, request that the sponsor return your call. Besides your number, leave the hours when you are more likely to answer the phone.
DURING THE PHONE CALL
- Introduce yourself and remind your sponsor that you are a Converse College student calling to set up a shadowing experience and have worked through the Converse College Office of Career Services to do so.
- Schedule the dates and times for your visit.
- Make sure the sponsor has the phone number where you can be reached immediately prior to shadowing.
- Get directions to your sponsor’s place of business and ask about the availability of parking.
- If you will be there all day, you may want to ask if you can bring lunch.
- Inquire about appropriate dress.
FOLLOWING THE PHONE CALL
- Call or email the Director of Career Services at karen.finnegan@converse.edu to
communicate your shadowing date(s).
or
- Call the Director of Career Services if you have decided not to shadow. If you or the sponsor decides that you are not well matched for shadowing, it is that person’s responsibility to let the other one know. You must inform the Director of Career Services if this happens, and a new sponsor will be found for you.
