In a letter to Converse College this year, Lyn Sauter Little stated, “I am a huge supporter of community service and believe our life would be a better place if community service were to become an integral part of our lives.” It is that kind of attitude—backed with actions—that have earned Lyn the Community Service Award, presented to a Converse alumna who displays the qualities of a vibrant citizen as evidenced in her active involvement in her community, church and state. As President of the District School Board of Northfield, Illinois, Lyn prevented the establishment of a teacher’s union, just one of many accomplishments which netted her the Northfield, Illinois Community Service Award. She also authored an architecture course for Chicago public schools. Lyn has served as a Sunday school teacher, a Care Guild coordinator and a chaperone for Youth Group Foreign Ministry. She has also been a Stephen Minister; a program for training lay people for one-to-one Christian care to people in need, and traveled with McCormick Seminary for mission work in Hungary and Romania. Lyn has served on the Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Woman’s Board for 26 years and the boards of Family Service, The Irene Josselyn Clinic and The Family Institute of Northwestern University. For Horizon Hospice, she is a trained caregiver. She is currently helping to develop a healing garden for North Shore Palliative Care Center. Lyn has been an Art in Schools teacher for the Junior League and enjoys painting. She has served as President of the Kenilworth Garden Club and takes part in the National GCA Judging Program in Flower Arranging, a skill for which she won a national award in 2005. |
