2003 KENNEDY CENTER AMERICAN COLLEGE THEATRE FESTIVAL

The regional level of The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival was held at the Savannah College of Art and Design in early March. Six Converse students were nominated to audition at the regional level of the prestigious Irene Ryan Scholarship Competition.

Steve Hunt, Associate Professor of Theatre, was also appointed as regional chair, leaving his former position of vice-chair, of the playwriting competition. At this year's festival Mr. Hunt was involved with helping to coordinate the short play and ten-minute play competitions. At the end of April, he traveled to the National Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Converse College’s Theatre and Dance Department entered their fall production “Spitfire Grill”, a musical by James Valcq and Fred Alley, at the state level festival at Lander University in November.  Elspeth Davis ('04) and Erin Stone (Graduate Student) were nominated for their performances to compete for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship at the 2004 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region IV conference in Birmingham, AL .
