THEATRE AND DANCE ORGANIZATIONS
ALPHA PSI OMEGA
Alpha Psi Omega is a national organization that serves as an honor society for those who distinguish themselves in the various areas of theatre art. New members are inducted annually by means of accumulating points earned through exceptional service to Theatre/Converse.
PALMETTO PLAYERS
The Players is one of the oldest college theatre groups in the state, and is open to anyone with an interest in theatre. Members provide support for Theatre/Converse productions ranging from performance to ushering. The Palmetto Players also produce plays that are included in the seasonal offerings of Theatre/Converse as fund-raisers for the Players. The latest venture was the 2003 production of a hilarious satire of the murder/mystery genre: “The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery”.
CONVERSE DANCE ENSEMBLE
Any student with an interest in dance is welcome to participate in the twice-yearly auditions for the Ensemble. The work of the Ensemble is featured in two public concerts per year: one during the fall term in the Hazel Abbott Theatre, and a larger one in the spring term in the Twichell Auditorium. Both concerts showcase student’s work as dancers and as choreographers for those students who qualify to set some of the pieces. Members of the Ensemble also perform at local schools and participate in campus activities such as the Martin Luther King celebration, Women’s History Month, and most recently in the Spartanburg Humanities Festival.
