FESTIVALS AND CONVENTIONS

SOUTH CAROLINA THEATRE ASSOCIATION (SCTA)
Converse is a member of this organization that embraces theatre professionals, educators, students and practitioners from across the state.  Each fall, a fully mounted production is taken on tour to the site of the annual SCTA convention, which includes workshops and performances from other colleges and secondary schools, and provides students an opportunity to audition for a slot at the professional auditions at SETC. In November of 2004, Converse will host the SCTA state convention for the second time in the past ten years.

SOUTHEASTERN THEATRE CONFERENCE (SETC)
Each spring, individuals from our program regularly attend this regional convention held in one of the southeast’s major cities. SETC is the largest such conference in the nation, and brings together over 3000 people from around the region and beyond to attend four days of well over 100 workshops, master classes, auditions, and presentations by theatre professionals. Typically over 800 actors, singers, and dancers audition for 2500 roles in 100+ professional companies. Off-stage folks can interview for over 1500 job openings.

KENNEDY CENTER AMERICAN COLLEGE THEATRE FESTIVAL (KCACTF)
Each year, every mainstage production of Theatre/Converse is entered in KCACTF, which is a program that involves more than 1,000 productions and 19,000 students from colleges and universities across the nation. At least one Converse production each year is a participant in the festival at the state level.  This makes it eligible for possible advancement to the regional festival, where it may be considered for an invitation to the national festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.  Converse has had productions advance to the regional level three times in the past twelve years.  Read about the 2003 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.

SOUTH CAROLINA DANCE ASSOCIATION (SCDA)
Converse is a member of SCDA, which hosts a biannual convention to celebrate the quality and diversity of dance in South Carolina. The meetings, workshops, auditions and performances provide exciting forums to exchange ideas, views and techniques in a non-competitive environment.
