Travel Opportunities

Upcoming Trip!!!

If you're interested in exploring the historic roots of early Christianity and musing the philosophical wonders of the world like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle once did, then join the flight to Greece and Turkey in January Term 2010!

Study-Travel to Greece and Italy (Jan 2007): Students visited sites in Athens, Delphi, Mycenae, Florence, Pompeii, and Rome for two weeks abroad. Coursework was based on the topic of "ancient theories of emotions," and readings and discussions were taken from classical Greek and Roman, as well as Medieval writings about the nature of emotion and its relationship to reason, action, and the good life.

Study-Travel to Spain and France (Jan 2008): Students traveled to Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris to explore the cultural contexts of historical Spanish and French philosophers-- including Sartre, Unamuno, Aquinas, Averroes, Ignatius of Loyola, and Descartes. Special attention was paid to connections between these philosophies and the histories of each location, as well as the visual culture.

Study-Travel to Eastern Europe (Jan 2009): Students trekked from Bucharest, Romania through Transylvania, Budapest, Prague, and Vienna exploring the local traditions of theatre and examining the philosophical and cultural implications of vampires, zombies, and ghosts.

Study-Travel to India (Jan 2009): Students traveled to different sites to learn about Hindu culture and Indian religions. Students were required to adapt to local customs, etiquette, and circumstances in order to learn how to successfully navigate cross-cultural experiences.
