THE TARPON SHARKS CLUB
Swimmers are invited to audition for Tarpon Sharks, a synchronized swimming group. Rehearsing from fall to spring in Converse's heated indoor pool, each Tarpon Shark member choreographs pieces to be performed in the annual show. In addition, last year the Tarpon Sharks had 12 members join the USA Synchro Organization, allowing the club to compete with other colleges in the South.

Membership tryouts are scheduled in the Fall term.  Following is a list of figures and other requirements that prospective members must perform.

  • front dive
  • under water swimming
  • breast stroke
  • front crawl (free-style) stroke
  • back stroke
  • foot first scull
  • head first scull
  • ballet leg
  • kip
  • porpoise
  • underwater handstand
  • back dolphin
  • swim to music (front crawl stroke)

Students who are interested in trying out may come to
the pool during regular swim times and talk with or
practice with a member.

Tarpon Shark members have the opportunity to attend workshops at other colleges. They also participate in writing, choreographing, and directing the water show in the spring.
