| Graduates of the Department of Foreign
Languages and Literatures are successful in their lives after
Converse. Some go directly into the job market, and some attend
graduate school to continue study in the language in which they
majored, while others enter law school or MBA programs.
Alumnae find that in this time of increasing globalization, a
foreign language major is a wonderful asset in the job market. Our
foreign language majors have obtained positions in multinational
businesses as human resource administrators, language specialists,
and international sales administrators.
A graduate with a double major in biology and Spanish went to
work in an industrial laboratory where her primary duty was to speak
in Spanish with the organization's South American customers. Foreign
Language and Literatures majors also are in much demand as secondary school teachers.
Alumnae who attend graduate school have had exciting experiences
because of their majors. One of our undergraduates, under the
auspices of the International Partnership in Service Learning, went
to Guernavaca, Mexico, where she studied the Spanish language and
Mexican culture and volunteered in a day-care center. After her
graduation, she attended graduate school at the University of
Georgia.
Another alumna, who had a double major in biology and French,
studied for a term in Avignon, France, and earned a master's degree
in International Health prior to going to medical school.
One alumna who participated in the Partnership in Service
Learning in France was so successful that she was invited back to
teach for a year at the place where she worked.
