Kyle Keefer is Assistant Professor of Religion at Converse College. He received B.A. and M.A. (1994) degrees in English from Baylor University and a M.Div. (1992) from Princeton Theological Seminary. He earned his Ph.D. in religion from Emory University, with a concentration in New Testament and Early Christianity.

Before coming to Converse in 2006, Professor Keefer was at Eckerd College, where he taught courses in biblical studies, religion and literature, and comparative mythology. His main research interests involve not only the New Testament texts themselves but also how these texts have been appropriated in various contexts. He has published several articles that focus on the intersection of the Bible and the arts. He recently published the book The Branches of the Fourth Gospel, which explores how the Gospel of John affected early Christian history. Currently he is working on The New Testament as Literature, which will be a part of Oxford University Press’s Very Short Introduction series.
