Kevin DeLapp is Assistant Professor of Philosophy and holds the Harold E. Fleming Chair of Philosophy. He received his bachelor’s degree with highest honors from the University of California at Santa Cruz and completed his Ph.D. in philosophy from Duke University in 2006.

Dr. DeLapp’s main areas of research focus on issues in moral philosophy. In particular, he is interested in meta-ethical questions concerning the ontological status of moral values: Do moral values exist independently of our awareness of them, or are they relative to different cultures and perspectives? Can the apparent pervasiveness of moral disagreement be reconciled with the alleged objectivity of moral values?

Dr. DeLapp also has specialized research interests in moral psychology, ancient Greek philosophy, and comparative philosophy (particularly Confucian ethics and Feminist theory). He especially enjoys teaching Introductory Logic and participates as an instructor in the Ideas and Cultures program.
