Kevin DeLapp is Assistant Professor of Philosophy and holds the Harold E. Fleming Chair of Philosophy. He received his bachelor’s degree with highest honors from the University of California at Santa Cruz and completed his Ph.D. in philosophy from Duke University in 2006.
His main areas of research focus on issues in ethical theory and moral disagreement, and he has published several articles in metaethics, moral epistemology, and moral psychology. Dr. DeLapp also has interests in ancient Greek philosophy, philosophy of religion, and comparative philosophy, particularly Confucian ethics and feminist theory. He frequently offers classes in the Nisbet Honors Program and has conducted several study-travel courses including “Ancient Theories of Emotion” (in Greece and Italy), “History of Epistemology” (in Spain and France), and “Philosophy of the Undead” (in Eastern Europe).
He currently serves as Director of the Ideas and Culture core-curriculum at Converse and is the founder and moderator of the Converse Fencing Club.
