Dr. Young is an Associate Professor of Economics, and Chair of the Economics, Accounting and Business Department.   Her research interests are in the areas of labor and urban economics, and economic pedagogy.   In addition to courses on economics, Dr. Young teaches the Ideas and Culture courses, and the Introduction to Leadership course. 

Over the last several years, Dr. Young has conducted study/travel programs to Finland, Russia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, England and Italy.   She also participated in a Rotarian Group Study Exchange to Brazil, and received a Malone Fellowship from the National Council on US/Arab Relations to visit Saudi Arabia. 

Dr. Young’s publications include: Preparing Women Leaders: The Astin Social Change Model in Action, A Leadership Journal:  Women in Leadership - Sharing the Vision, Volume 3, Number 2, Spring 1999,  Interfirm Wage Differential in a Local Labor Market: The Case of Fast-Food Workers (Journal of Labor Research, Summer 1997), and The Spatial Distribution of Black Employment Between the Central City and the Suburbs (Economic Inquiry, October 1996).

Her presentations include: “Money and Movies:  Economics in Film” in the Film Area Session at the 2004 joint meeting of the Popular Culture Association and the American Culture Association,  and  “Movies and Money: Using Films as a Way to Teach Economic Principles” at the Gulf Coast Economics Association’s second annual teaching conference "Economics Teaching Conference”, October 2006

Dr. Young received her Ph.D. in Economics from Georgia State University, her M.A. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame, and her B.A. in Economics and English - With a Concentration in Writing from Indiana University at South Bend.   She won two teaching awards as a graduate student at Georgia State University and the annual “Excellence in Writing” Award at Indiana University at South Bend.
