Dr. Mathews has taught at Converse since 1967. Although trained in classical experimental psychology, his interest gravitated to the experimental analysis of behavior and to applied behavior analysis. In 1997,  he spent a sabbatical leave at UCLA studying the application of behavior analysis principles as they have contributed to early intervention in autism. Currently in addition to his teaching responsibilities, he supervises intervention teams for several local children who have been diagnosed with autism. His students make up the backbones of those intervention teams. He offers courses in General Psychology, Psychology of Learning, Statistics, Abnormal Psychology, Sensation and Perception, Cognitive Psychology, and Early Intervention in Autism.

Dr. Mathews received his PhD, MA, and BA from the University of Virginia.
