Dr. Jensen has been a member of the Biology
Faculty at Converse since the fall of 1999. His
research is in the field of paleobotany, where he
uses plant fossils to determine evolutionary
relationships. He has presented research at
national and international meetings. Dr. Jensen
has also presented to the college community on the
relationship of science and religion as ways of
understanding the world, in the context of debates
on creationism and evolution. He has made fossil
collections from as far away as New Brunswick and
Quebec and as nearby as eastern South
Carolina.
Dr. Jensen teaches courses in General Biology,
Microbiology, Systematic Botany, General Botany,
Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Research
Methods. His students have had the
opportunity to participate in scientific
investigations such as researching the anatomy of
400 million year old plants from Quebec and
researching plants that lived in South Carolina 70
million years ago. He also leads field work
in the deserts of the American southwest.
