Dr. Bynum received his Ph.D. in
Spanish literature from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill. His areas of scholarly
interest include Romanticism, 19th
century literature—with special emphasis on
poetry—and art history. His book, The
Romantic Imagination in the Works of Gustavo
Adolfo Bécquer, was published by UNC Press.
In recent years he has pursued interdisciplinary
connections both as a member of the American
Conference on Romanticism and as a regular
participant in the Ideas and Culture core courses
here at Converse. Since 1992, he has served as
Director of Advising for the College, and
maintains membership in NACADA, the national
advising organization. Dr. Bynum teaches all
levels of Spanish language and a variety of
advanced literature courses in which the
discussion is sure to include art, history, and
philosophy.
