Science Field Work in the American Southwest
Julie Clarkson, Converse Staff

Converse students are offered the opportunity to accompany  Converse science professors to the American Southwest to study Geology and Desert Biology for sixteen days.

Before the students embark on travel, they study plate tectonics, petrology( the study of rocks and their formation), and the biology and ecology of deserts in the American Southwest.  Then they travel to Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and California for the experiential portion of their studies.

In addition to the heavy focus on science, the students also learn about the ancestral Native Americans of the region, Native American Art, and Southwestern culture.
